Oceanside report...

Well here's the report for Oceanside race, the 70.3 race I've been training for since January. It was an awesome race. Kept hearing that the water was cold (it's in the Pacific Ocean, so I guess it would be), the bike course is hilly (it was), and the run was right along the ocean in a residential area. Well it was everything and more. All the training was worth it, long swims, pacing bike rides, and increased running. The water was a brisk 58 degrees, but you don't notice if much once you get started. The bike course was beautiful, it went through Camp Pendelton. The terrain was hill, exposed and windy. As the day progressed, the winds got worse, but luckily I didn't blow myself up, and paced great. I was ready for the run, had more than enough left for the run (not trying to say it was easy), but I felt good to have a good run, and everything went as planned. Just nice and steady throughout the run, taking time to look out at the ocean with the wind hitting your face. This is when you love the wind, hitting your face to cool you off. Wound up doing what Jenny and I hoped for, was a 6:30 time, and came in at 6:30:22! Love the race would love to do it again next year. Oh, and BTW, my hubby, Steve got another spot to Clearwater, FL, so I guess we're going again. I'll try for one from Vineman, hopefully it will be a good day as well. I'll definitely train for it and hope for luck on my side that day! My bro-in-law, Mike, and his girlfriend, Mady, all raced together, it was a fun and fast weekend.

We wound up later that evening at a hamburger joint, where we had burgers and fries, and shared onion rings. Oh, and after we started to walk back to the hotel, we decided we felt like ice cream too, so we headed to Coldstone for a nice creamy desert! Nice way to end the day, slept like a big baby that night!
