I had the experience of meeting someone who helped me in the area of swimming, who doesn't even know it or whom I've never met before. His name is Glen, he was swimming in the pool at 24 hour fitness next to me in the swim lane. I had gotten there around 9:45 am and there was an aqua class in session that ended at 10:00 am. After the class was done, and the lane lines were in place it was just me and this man, Glen, who were in 2 of the lanes out of four. I started to warm up for my 25 min. swim training. He started to warm-up as well. I took note that he took the aqua class and then started swimming laps. He had an spirtual presence that quited me down so I could relax before swimming. He was very smooth in his strokes, not worried about anybody else and just swam, not breathing hard, not struggling. Then I realized after all these months of swimming, I was approaching this movement all wrong. I never felt this before and thought how odd I could feel this after a few months of swimming. I didn't have to panic, didn't have to compete with others, just had to swam. Sounds simple, but it was more basic than I ever thought. Once I was able to relax and not think so much, I could get my groove in the lane and never panic while swimming. While I never thought I would be where I am now, training for triathlons, no less even getting in the pool and swimming in races. But while Glen was in the next lane, he was very calming and I felt I had to thank him for giving me this calming experience. So I introduced myself and we struck up a conversation about how and why the water has brought us here. He was very nice man and interesting to talk to. I could have stayed there another hour and talked with him, but unfortunately had to go to work. I told him I'd see him again. The next day I swam again and I tried to retain the same feeling I did the day before. It worked. I thought how it was to just swim and let the technique just happen and it did. I felt more comfortable in the water than ever before and I think this will stay with me. Thanks Glen for helping my training and my love for the water even more. Happy outdoors, get out there and enjoy the sun on your face, you're body will thank you. Luv Loni
