I know it's been awhile, but since I've had nothing to do since my eye injury, except sit on the couch. No exercise, no nothing, I've been watching the TDF everyday and keeping up with the buzz of the cycling world. It's quite fascinating. The strategies by teams, the steep 10% grade mountains (that's very, very steep in layman's terms). They actually seem to claw their way up the Pyrenee mountains in France. I've just been in awe of watching this level of athleticsm (sp?) and humanism of just what these endurance athletes can do. However, in the same breath, I've seen 2 individuals be pulled out of the race and a team (due to one individual) also be yanked from the tour, due to doping issues. I can't believe that some would ruin their chance to be in such an extraordinary race as the TDF and have it all blown away by the results of a blood and/or urine test. It happens rather quickly. But I keep on watching, because our hometown boy Levi L. is sneaking into a possible podium position in Paris. It's exciting, well to me anyways. And I love saying the names of riders, such as Fabian Canncellara, Alberto Contador and Alajandro Valverde. Say that with gusto and a deep voice and you can be a commentator! And my favortie saying by the wonderful Phil Liggitt is "...and the man is riding as though he's possessed." He probably says it once every day during the stages. I wish I had a quarter for each time he said that....
Anyways, my eye is getting better. It's dialated still and it feels like it's as big as a baseball in my head (doesn't hurt, just some imagery at work!). I was finally, after 6 days, able to get back in the pool and swim a few laps and got on the precor, not the treadmill or pounding pavement, the precor and move my legs a bit. It felt wonderful, the blood flow, the sweating, the breathing, the movement, uh, oh, sounds like I'm addicted. Until next time, do something for yourself, dance, walk, groove, sing, it will do your heart good. Luv ya all, Loni Behler
